Valley Wheel League Goals: Our league goals in order of importance are: 1. To provide an opportunity to as many baseball enthusiasts as possible to play the game they love. 2. To strive for parity among teams so that every game is a challenge. 3. Do our best to allow friends, brothers, sons and fathers to play together. This is a fun league. It's a great alternative to softball. This is an over-30 league so you must turn 30 by June 1. You are never too old as long as you feel you can play. But, that's up to you, your physical condition, skill level and good genes. How do I get on a team? Wondering if you can still play competitively? Is this for you? Every year teams need ballplayers and we work hard to get every interested player on the field. Get your registration and league fee submitted ASAP to reserve a roster spot. Come Check It Out...We'll be holding open practices before the draft on Tuesday, April 20. Call Jim for details 413-433-4308. Don't worry, these practices are to give the team managers a chance to see new players on the field and match your skills with their needs. This also gives you a chance to meet some of the guys and decide if this is right for you. You may withdraw your registration up until the draft. After the draft is held your league fee is not refundable. During the season we encourage prospective players to take in a game. If you like what you see contact the league as we are always looking to get as many playing as possible. If you have a team or a number of guys that want to play together, we'll try to accommodate you so long as we can keep a balance with other teams in the league. Returning player registrations are due March 1. The draft will be held Tuesday, April 20. Extra players are placed on a waiting list. Late registrations that don't make it into the draft are on the waiting list, your check will be returned to you. Wait listed players are used during the season to fill in any roster openings that may arise. For new players the league fee includes a complete uniform except pants. (jersey, cap, socks and belt.) We play baseball on 90-foot diamonds officiated by 2 board certified umpires. We follow Major League Baseball rules for the most part, adapted with safety in mind as we all have responsibilities the next day. We play 9 innings. Everyone bats; everyone must play a minimum of 4 innings in the field. All teams will make the play-offs. A player must play in a minimum of 7 games to be eligible for the playoffs. You must supply a glove and cleats. Both molded cleats and metal spikes are allowed. You can use your own bat. Wood bats or -3 metal bats are allowed. The league will supply ball fields, umpires, balls, full uniforms (except pants), catcher’s gear, metal bats and helmets which must be worn while batting and on the base paths. In 2010 we’ll be playing a 15 game schedule from the end of April until the end of August . We will play one game per week on Sunday, except for Holiday weekends. Most game times will be 4:00 PM. (see the 2010 Schedule) We’re in tough economic times and all of our costs will increase. The league fee this yearwill be $200. Add up a few rounds of golf, a few times skiing, the cost to play hockey or tennis and you have to agree you get more than your monies worth. Pants can be purchased for an additional $22 for Wilson pants or $32 for heavy duty Majestic pants. We play ball around the valley. Last season we played in Springfield, Agawam, West Springfield, Enfield and Easthampton. We would like to acknowledge those cities and towns for their support in making this league a success. The registration fee must be paid in full at the time of registration. Print out the registration form, fill it out and send it in with a copy of your driver's license and your league fee. It's as simple as that. Play Ball! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime. To meet other like minded individuals who share a common interest as fans, players and enthusiasts of America’s great pastime. We share fun and exercise in a family friendly environment where sportsmanship prevails, and safety is a primary concern. To learn the fine nuances of the game that were incomprehensible to us as little leaguers and transparent to the most ardent fan. To help our host cities and towns improve field conditions for all to enjoy. We enjoy each others camaraderie in friendly competition with the opportunity to form lifelong friendships.” |
